  • All About Gasoline. Adding small amounts of acetone to your gas can improve your gas mileage dramatically.

9/06/05:

  • All About Gasoline. Expect gas prices to stay high for several months, and ethanol to become a more important part of US gasoline, thanks in no small part to Katrina.
  • All About Gasoline. Gas taxes by state.
  • All About Gasoline. Is the world running out of oil? Not even close.
  • All about oil. The new API SM oils and CI-4 Plus oils. CI-4 Plus is excellent for motorcycles.

  • How to handle a motorcycle accident.

9/8/04: VStrom

  • Motech Skid plate now available for both 1000 and 650. A prestigious skid plate, at a price prestigious people can afford.

9/4/04: R1200GS, VStrom, ST1300

8/29/04: Comics

  • My collection of comics. It turns out my source, Baravalle.it, is a bit flaky. It mostly seems to be working today.

8/29/04: Tickets

  • How to fight a helmet law ticket. This presumes you were wearing a helmet, but not a "legal "helmet. If you weren't wearing a helmet, I think you just bought a fine.

8/26/04: Comics, Tools, Riding With Kids

8/21/04: Comics

  • My collection of comics. Updated daily. Why buy a paper? Note: this page has some small problems, still being worked out. A few comics are not being updated.

8/7/04: VStrom, Filter XRef

8/3/04: VStrom

8/1/04: VStrom, Helmets

7/31/04: Instruments

  • Does ABS really work? It seems that for the majority of riders, especially in wet or sandy conditions, ABS is a real benefit. It pains me to write this.

7/30/04: VStrom 650 gas mileage

7/29/04: ST1300, Laws

  • Updated tire recommendations for the ST1300. The BT020F (not the BT020U) is recommend as the best all-around performer. Avoid the BT020U. The ME-Z6 has the best handling, but poor mileage. The ME-880 rear tire has the best mileage, but so-so handling at insane speeds in the twisties.
  • Louisiana has a helmet law again.

7/28/04: Riding Cloths, Helmets

  • Cool Vests. $30 - $200. The cheaper ones work better. Go figger.
  • The continuing flip-open helmet saga. I have received complaints from several readers due to my recommendation that these helmets be avoided as unsafe. I looked into them further. At this time, no flip-open helmet is Snell certified; indeed Snell says no flip-open helmet has been submitted to them for testing. I now believe this is because the manufacturers know that the helmets will fail even the open-face Snell standards, due to insufficient protection in the temple area. The manufacturers all have in-house testing facilities to do the DOT testing, so they know in advance.

7/14/04: Packing

  • July 12, 2004. Picture of freeway closed in Edmonton Alberta for 12 hours due to snow, hail, rain. Thinking of riding north? I wasn't kidding when I said to pack winter cloths for Canada.

7/13/04: Oil, Break-in

7/11/04: Units

7/09/04: Filter X-Ref

  • I counted. Today, MotorcycleInfo.calsci.com is 25.8 megabytes, 58 html pages, 654 images, and 1687 links.
  • J.C.Whitney is a good source for cartridge type oil filters for older bikes.

7/07/04: Helmets

  • I have heard too many stories now about people with flip-open helmets crashing and sustaining eye socket damage and concussions. I recommend you avoid flip-open helmets if safety is a concern.

  • Frames are gone. They don't interact well with search engines. It's all done with SSI now.
  • Updated my state map - congratulations to all you Pennsylvania riders.
  • Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube is a recommended product.
  • More improvements to my oil article. Better viscosity tables, more info about film strength.
  • What's New section now goes back only 4 months.
  • I put a little logo up on your browser tabs and in your bookmarks, if you make a new one. If your browser doesn't have tabs, well, all I can say is the rest of us are all in the 21st century.

2/28/04: Entire Site

  • I find a lot of people get sent into the middle of my site by search engines, thereby missing the navigation bar. So, I've put links on every page, top and bottom, to Home and My Products. My new server has a lot of very interesting statistics.
  • More improvements to my oil article. Added a more complete description of how group-II and group-III oils came about.

  • Over filling the oil is a bad idea, but I no longer think there's a clear link to existing oil leaks.
